From Singapore we flew to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, Borneo. The town is quite small and serves mainly as a gateway to the famous but a bit overrun Mount Kinabalu. As we discovered previously in our journey, we are not really the enthusiastic hiker type, so we skipped that one. But we did want to do some snorkelling before we travelled on to Kudat. We had great visibility (+30m!), and enjoyed the warm waters, coral gardens and colorful fish. We ended up swimming in the pouring rain, which seems very typical KK after spending a couple of days here.
Kota Kinabalu hasn't a lot to offer besides snorkelling or diving, but there's a relax vibe and some great food on offer. We actually stayed here longer than expected.
Great places for food are: Azlina Sulawesi, Buffet Kopitiam and the Chinese restaurant where they serve pork in many different ways, you can't miss it, just follow the crowd.
